Overview of the role:

The DataOps Engineer forms a central part of the new BI tool set being implemented to transform analytics engagement across the organization. The individual should embrace change in this dynamic environment and evolve, maintain and support the BI ecosystems forming the company customer facing and internal Business Intelligence services. The role also requires the administration of the source operational databases, which predominantly use MySQL technology.  The engineer is responsible for monitoring production environments and processes, providing second line support for internal and external user requests related to Database, Business Intelligence, Big Data and Data Mining solutions. In addition, this role will be involved in operational improvement projects and development/enhancement of BI solutions utilizing standard BI tools.

Overall responsibilities:

  • Drive the evolution of the existing BI infrastructure to the next level, using BI cutting-edge technology.
  • Administer BI and operational DBMS infrastructures, including highly-available database server clusters as well as standard BI tools;
  • Use and deploy tools to aid in the management and monitoring of the BI, Operational, NoSql and Development Databases;
  • Gain a thorough understanding of the Systems Infrastructure, with special attention to the database organization, schemas, ETL and analytics tools;
  • Manage databases to ensure optimal performance, capacity management and reliability;
  • Develop, manage and test back-up and recovery plans of all databases;
  • Provide advice and expertise to other departments related to database schemas, queries, BI tools and performance optimization;
  • Execute and automate release scripts and any manual updates required on the databases;
  • Write database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the operational data dictionary;
  • Maintain data standards, including adherence to the PCI compliance;
  • Test and install new DBMS releases and BI tools;
  • Establish the needs of users, monitor user access and security and controlling access permissions and privileges.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • A B.Sc. in IT or equivalent qualification;
  • Experience with ETL and Data Analysis tools and managing the underlying BI infrastructure
  • Expertise in optimizing Schemas, SQL tuning and ETL pipelines.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills;
  • Knowledge of MySql and Microsoft SQL Servers and BI Suite;
  • Knowledge of Percona tools and Mongo will be considered and asset;
  • Knowledge of UNIX, Application servers and scripting languages such as Bash and Python are all additional assets for this post;
  • Experience in the financial industry will also be considered as an asset.
  • A can-do attitude and willingness to learn;
  • Candidate must be willing to be part of the second-line on-call team, occasionally assisting front-line support with BI and Database related issues.
